Last week, I was talking to “Team Captain” Tana who pointed out that I was vastly overtraining for a half-marathon that’s still 3 months away. She suggested that I either slow my roll or entertain an idea that I had always considered both ridiculous and impossible: Run the WHOLE marathon.
I decided to at least give the training schedule a shot, so we printed one out that seemed somewhat feasible. 4 to 5 mile runs through the week, and one big run each weekend. So yesterday, I did something I have never done before: I ran 12 miles. Yup! Just for fun!
You know, it’s kind of frightening how often those two words are starting to appear together in my dialogue: Run and Fun.
And to think that about a month ago, I was barely puttering my way through my 3-mile runs on the All-Star Fitness treadmill. I am completely transformed!
Total Mileage: 11.95
Sweet! That is amazing! But why do you have to be training for something in order to be running 5 or 6 miles a day? I know that you WANT to train right now... but it always ticks me off that the assumption is made that no one should or I should say... enjoy... running over 5 miles a day, several times a week if they aren't training for something. Screw that!
ReplyDeleteWait, who's saying I can't do it just because I enjoy it? She wasn't saying that at all...She was just saying that I could do more. As in, being encouraging, not discouraging!
ReplyDeleteThe whole... 'over training' bit... that's all. But I'm just being bitchy today.
ReplyDeleteAnd besides... it's IMPOSSIBLE to over train. WTH. If anything, it's better to be over prepared rather then under prepared. But I'm all for the encouragement to go for the full marathon. That would be amazing! :)
ReplyDeleteYea you are! hahaha :) T-minus 2 days. Cheer up! I'm leaving tomorrow night. :)
ReplyDeleteAh, since 8 of 10 runners are hurt every year...I could easily hurt myself before I even make it to the starting line. Maybe I just made the wrong word choice?
:) I haven't been able to work out in a few days now... and I'm sick. :p So, I'm just jealous. hehe I'm a woman, remember??? hehe
ReplyDeleteSham- you forgot to mention Danielle "home base" Browitt. The one who will be waiting for you at the end with a hug and a beer.
